Every manufacturer is obligated to label the content of the bottle and you will usually see some letters, numbers or number symbols on the bottle.

  1. PET or PETE

It means that the bottle is for single-use only. This plastic can release heavy metals and chemicals that can cause hormonal imbalance in your organism.

PET is most commonly used plastic in consumer products, and is used in almost all water and pop bottles and some packaging. It is made for single use only because every next use raises the possibility of releasing the chemicals and bacterial growth. It is very hard to decontaminate the PET plastic, while the proper cleaning needs dangerous chemicals. It can also release carcinogens.

  1. HDP or HDPE

This plastic doesnt release chemicals at all. These water bottles are advised by the expert because it is considered as the healthiest water on the market.

HDPE plastic is strong plastic used for making milk jugs, detergent and oil bottles, toys and plastic bags. This plastic is also recycled often and is the safest plastic on the market. The process for recycling HDPE plastic for secondary use is cheap and simple.

  1. PVC or 3V

this plastic is facile, flexible and it is mostly used for making plastic food wrapping, cooking oil bottles, teething rings, toys and blister packaging for millions consumer products. It is often used as covering material for computer cables, and manufacturing plastic pipes and parts for plumbing. It is often used for making window frames, arbors, garden hoses, raised beds and trellises because of its sun and weather resistance.

  1. LDPE

-This plastic isnt used for bottles, only for plastic bags. It doesnt release any dangerous chemicals in the water.

LDPE is mostly used for shrink wraps, dry cleaner garment bags, squeezable bottles and plastic bags for bread. It can be found in the plastic bags used in the stores. You can even find it in some furniture and clothing.

  1. PP

-This is white colored semi transparent plastic which is mostly used for yogurt cups and syrups.

Polypropylene plastic is strong and lightweight, and is pretty resistant to the heat. It is used as a protection from moisture, grease and chemicals. You can find polypropylene on the cereal boxes as the thin plastic liner. It maintains the cereal fresh and dry. It is also used for palls, plastic bottle tops, margarine and yogurt containers, disposable diapers, potato chips bags, straws, packing tape and rope.

  1. PS

Polystyrene is cheap, lightweight and easily-shaped plastic with many uses. It is mostly used for making the Styrofoam drinking cups, food containers, egg cartons, foam packaging, plastic picnic cutlery and the omnipresent peanut foam chips which are usually used in the shipping boxes as protection for the products. It is also used for making stiff foam protection and underlay griddle for laminate floorings.

  1. PC or non-labeled plastic

-This is the most harmful plastic which is used in the food production because it releases BPA chemicals and is usually used in the manufacturing process of sports water bottles and food containers.

This type was made as a catch-all for polycarbonate (PC) and other plastics, so they are not meant to be recycled or reused. The increased risk of BPA chemical leach into the food or water is the biggest concern. BPA is a xenoestrogen which causes endocrine disorders.
