While Im sure you think that I hang out in my kitchen all day creating beautiful food, Im actually sitting at a desk all day at a computer. While I would love to write for this blog full time it just has not happened. Yet.
So where am I going with this? Im usually pretty busy at my day-job but there are times when things get a little bit slower and then I start to daydream about food. Seriously. And then I get in the mood to snack. And then I try to not think about the vending machine that we have. So I try to come up with other ideas of snack foods that keep my mouth occupied without filling me up with extra calories.
One of my favorite snacks are almonds. I really love the Oven Roasted Sea Salt almonds from Blue Diamond. The saltiness is fulfilling and I like the little boost of protein to fill me back up during the day. I also recently discovered their Dark Chocolate almonds and find that they are a great way to satisfy my afternoon sweet tooth. Thats seriously a thing. It strikes me every day around 2:00.
Here are some other tips for smarter snacking:
- Choose snacks that are high in fiber. The fiber will fill up your stomach and tell your brain that youre full!
- Select fruits to satisfy your sweet tooth.
- Pick vegetables to keep your mouth moving. Studies indicate that if you keep your mouth moving by chewing you will feel full longer. This works with almonds too!
- Plan your snacks ahead of time. If you have a handful of almonds readily accessible youll be less likely to run to the vending machine for a candy bar or bag of potato chips. I keep a bag of the Oven Roasted Sea Salt items in my desk drawer!
