David Letterman leaving TV is a bigger deal than most people realize.
He means so much to so many, but it’s been really incredible to see how much other comics and talk show hosts respect him.
Did you know that Jimmy Kimmel didn’t even air a new episode during the same time slot as Letterman’s last show? He chose to only show a rerun instead.
Well, Conan still had his show continue on as normal… except the night was very Letterman themed.
Coco, and even his guest Patton Oswalt, pretty much just swapped stories about Dave and how much he influenced them and their careers.
When the time came for Letterman to walk out onto his set, one last time, Conan sprang into action. He was closely watching the time and when the clock struck 11:35pm, he did something incredible…
He sent all his remaining viewers away (which he estimated to be about 7 people due to the buzz around Dave’s last show) and asked them to tune to Letterman’s farewell episode. That is pure class.
