If You Thought Normal Clowns Were Scary, Just Wait Until You See What This Artist Did With Them

If there”s one thing we can all agree on, it”s that clowns are terrifying. Sure, clowns started out as funny entertainers who were beloved by all. But somewhere in the last 30 years or so, they”ve shifted from undeniably funny to downright horrifying. I”m sure this shift has multiple causes, but most of the blame probably sits with Stephen King and his 1986 killer clown novel, It.

While King might have started the trend of terrifying clowns, French-born photographer Eolo Perfido has perfected it. His latest series Clownville features a cast of clowns straight from the depths of your worst nightmares.

Perfido says he drew inspiration for Clownville from the silent movie stars of the early 1900s, like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton.
