LAHORE (Staff Report) – Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Shaharyar Khan on Tuesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Biomechanics Lab for cricketers, set up with the cooperation of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the PCB Chief said that the facility was a step towards more modern cricket. He added that the facility would help raise the standard of cricket in Pakistan by allowing players to work on technical faults and fix suspect bowling actions at an early stage.
Also present on the occasion were Vice Chancellor, LUMS University, Dr Sohail Naqvi, Chief Operating Officer, PCB, Subhan Ahmad, test cricketer Muhammad Hafeez, former test cricketer Mushtaq Ahmad and Assistant manager, Pakistan Cricket team, Shahid Aslam.
Shaharyar said efforts would be made to get the lab certified from International Cricket Council and ICC experts will be invited to visit Pakistan to inspect the facility to check its working and overall standards.
“After ICC certification it will become the 8th such facility worldwide,” he said adding, “The allied equipment of the lab was bought eight years ago but it could not become functional owing to different reasons and during the course of time its two cameras become out of order which have been replaced.”
Chairman PCB said that the lab will function in LUMS and most modern techniques including use of robot and drone will be used to judge the suspect bowling action of the bowlers.
“Muhammad Hafeez’s bowling action will also be checked in the same lab and will be sent to ICC lab for its outcome,” he said adding, “We will also be testing bowlers with suspect bowling action reported during the last domestic season.”
He also said that later on the lab would be shifted elsewhere.
